Intestinal Probiotics: Interactions with Bile Salts and Reduction of Cholesterol
نویسنده
چکیده
Probiotics mainly reside in host intestinal tract, where they interact with bile salts and ingested cholesterol. This paper reviews the recent progresses of probiotics on the following issues, i.e. bile salts effect on membrane composition; probiotic tolerance and modification of bile salts; the mechanism of probiotic removal of host cholesterol; and the roles that bile salt hydrolase plays. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Promoting probiotics survival by microencapsualtion with Hylon starch and genipin cross-linked coatings in simulated gastro-intestinal condition and heat treatment
Microencapsulation with hydrocolloids as a modern technique has been used to prolong the survival of probiotics during exposure to harsh conditions. In this study, alginate-Hylon starch microcapsules with genipin cross-linked chitosan and poly-L-lysine coatings were developed to encapsulate four strains of probiotic bacteria, including Lactobacillus casei (ATCC 39392), Bifidobacterium bifidum (...

Microencapsulation as one of the most modern methods has remarkable effects on probiotic survival. In this study Lactobacillus casei (ATCC 39392) and Bifidobacterium bifidum (ATCC 29521) were encapsulated using calcium alginate-gelatinized starch, chitosan coating and inulin via emulsion technique, and were incubated in simulated gastric juice (along with pepsin, pH=1.5) and simulated intestina...

متن کاملFunctional and Probiotic Attributes of an Indigenous Isolate of Lactobacillus plantarum
BACKGROUND Probiotic microorganisms favorably alter the intestinal microflora balance, promote intestinal integrity and mobility, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and increase resistance to infection. Probiotics are increasingly used in nutraceuticals, functional foods or in microbial interference treatment. However, the effectiveness of probiotic organism is considered to be population-s...
